1. Absolute Environmental Control – The Switch of Light
100% Photoperiod Control: The length of "day" and "night" can be precisely controlled, breaking the crop's dependence on natural seasons and enabling uninterrupted, off-season production year-round.
Eliminating Accidental Light Exposure: For crops that are extremely sensitive to light (such as certain fungi and sprouts), even weak nighttime light can lead to decreased quality or premature flowering. The completely dark environment ensures the absolute purity and consistency of the production process.
2. Maximizing Production Efficiency and Quality
Accelerated Growth and Development: For many sprouts (such as bean sprouts and toon sprouts), continuous darkness is key to simulating the optimal environment for seed germination, inhibiting fibrosis, and promoting tenderness and crispness, significantly shortening the production cycle.
Induction and Enhancement of Specific Components: For certain medicinal plants or functional agricultural products, specific light-free stress can induce or significantly enhance the accumulation of their internal active components (such as certain alkaloids and polyphenols), thereby creating higher value.
Inhibition of Photosynthesis, Focusing on Targeted Growth: Directing the crop's energy entirely to target parts (such as tubers, mycelium, and shoots), rather than using it for leaf growth, achieves higher biotransformation efficiency and product quality.
3. Highly Intensive and Safe Production Space:
Three-Dimensional Dense Cultivation: Since natural lighting is not required, cultivation racks can be densely stacked, resulting in a production capacity per unit area that is several times or even dozens of times greater than that of traditional greenhouses.
Physical Isolation from Pests and Diseases: The strictly enclosed environment effectively blocks most light-dependent pests and some airborne diseases, significantly reducing pesticide use and facilitating organic or green production.
Typical Application Scenarios:
Factory Production of Sprouts: Such as soybean sprouts, mung bean sprouts, pea sprouts, radish sprouts, etc., enabling efficient, clean, and continuous assembly line production.
Cultivation of high-value edible and medicinal fungi: Such as enoki mushrooms, king oyster mushrooms, and white lingzhi mushrooms, whose mycelial growth and primordia formation often require a dark environment.
Cultivation of special medicinal plants: Used to produce medicinal materials that are sensitive to photoperiod or require the accumulation of active ingredients in darkness.
Breeding and scientific research: Used for plant photobiology research and photoperiod treatment in genetic breeding.
The completely dark greenhouse is not a replacement for traditional agriculture, but a powerful specialized production tool. By creating the special production factor of extreme "darkness," it has opened up a highly efficient, clean, and high-value-added industrial track in the field of non-photosynthetic biological production. Its essential advantage lies in transforming the uncontrollable variable of "light" in agricultural production into a completely controllable production parameter.

Main Structure: |
Enclosed steel or wall structure, typically without natural ventilation windows. |
|
Single Span: |
Commonly 8m – 12m, limited by the absence of internal columns and the layout of cultivation racks. |
|
Coverage Area: |
Area customized according to production plans, typically a separate workshop of several hundred to several thousand square meters. |
|
Internal Layout: |
Multi-level vertical cultivation racks, the core production unit, typically with 4-8 layers. |
|
Internal Clear Height: |
3.5m – 5m, reserving space for multi-level vertical cultivation racks. |
|
|
Relies on forced ventilation, air conditioning, humidifiers, and other equipment for manual control. |
It is core functionality lies in achieving dual functions through two different colors:
White side (facing up/outward): Its primary function is reflection. It reflects most sunlight (heat and light), effectively reducing the temperature under the film and providing shading and cooling.
Black side (facing down/inward): Its primary function is blocking. It completely blocks light transmission, providing 100% shading, inhibiting weed growth, and maintaining humidity.

Conventional Vegetable Cultivation: Leafy Vegetables: Lettuce, spinach, rapeseed, bok choy, etc. Short growth cycles and low temperature and light requirements make them ideal for off-season or early spring/late autumn cultivation in film greenhouses. Fruit Vegetables: Tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, peppers, zucchini, etc. Spring planting can be done earlier, and autumn planting can be delayed, effectively avoiding the low temperatures of open fields and significantly extending the harvest period. Fruit and Specialty Crops: Strawberries: Film greenhouses are the main form of off-season strawberry cultivation.
Through mulching and greenhouse insulation, fresh fruit can be supplied from winter to spring. Melons, Watermelons: Suitable for early-maturing cultivation. Seedling Raising: Cultivating seedlings for open-field vegetables, flowers, and fruit trees is cost-effective. Some Flowers and Shade-Tolerant Crops: Mid- to low-grade potted flowers, herbaceous flowers, or shade-tolerant foliage plants can be planted. In brief: Film greenhouses are "economical and practical," mainly used to resist low temperatures and extend the growing season. They are suitable for crops that do not have high requirements for environmental precision, have short growth cycles, and moderate economic benefits. They are currently the most widely used type of greenhouse in China.
